Corinth

Founded in 1853 as Cross City, because of its connection to the Mobile & Ohio and the Memphis & Charleston railroads, the city was renamed Corinth in 1855 for the location of the Grecian crossroads. Because of its strategic railroad location, Corinth, Mississippi was a major prize for the Union army to capture, and a must for the Confederates to hold. Because of this, many battles were fought in and around the city, which lies just a few miles south of the Shiloh Battlefield, in Tennessee. Its beautiful antebellum architecture, remarkable Civil War earthworks, Civil War Interpretive Center, and overall historical significance lures thousands of visitors to Corinth, Mississippi each year.
